Comfort
Our home offers comfort
superior to any conventional home. The same extremes of insulation
in the building envelope that minimize energy demands make the home
more comfortable year around. Scientifically speaking winter comfort
is the result of the radiant energy fields which stream from the
warm inside face of walls and triple glazed windows. The higher
insulation causes the inside of walls to be warmer than conventional
construction. The warmer surfaces radiate more heat back to the
interior, making you feel more comfortable. The absence of drafts
completes the effect. The SIP walls are tightly sealed against
infiltration.
The tight construction requires engineered ventilation provided by
the energy recovery ventilator (ERV) which brings in outside air and
preheats it with reclaimed energy from the exhaust stream before
being distributed through a gentle ductwork distribution. This
system also provides silent dependable bathroom and kitchen exhaust
without fan noise or back drafts ever. Occupancy sensors
automatically activate the exhaust system with no need for occupants
to use a switch.
The use of hollow-core precast concrete plank for the main floor
deck not only provides incredible strength and durability,
resistance to fire, termites, and tornados. The main reason for
selecting hollow-core precast concrete is building comfort. The thermal mass of the concrete acts
to stabilize the interior temperature against the changes that
otherwise would occur daily. The southern windows serve as passive
solar collectors and the thermal mass of the floor is designed to
absorb the heat which streams in through the windows, warming only a
few degrees, and releasing that heat slowly for hours afterward. In
a stick-framed building with bouncy wood framed floors, the
temperature rise on a sunny day would make these rooms uncomfortably
hot in late morning and much of the afternoon, followed by a need
for added heat to prevent being chilly at night.
Radiant floor heating provides the ultimate in comfortable heating.
There are no radiators, no baseboard heat to collect cobwebs and
rust. The floor is subtly warm. It takes only a few degrees of
temperature difference to transmit the needed heat to the living
spaces. Until you personally experience radiant floor heating it is
hard to imagine the new world of comfort it offers.
