Visual Appeal

The exterior architecture is a very traditional and recognizable Cape Cod style. The '12:12' or 45-degree roof pitch of this style lends itself very well to the 'building integrated photovoltaic' (BIPV) electric generation system and the solar hot water (SHW) collection systems. The generous quantity of windows and skylights provides delightful daylighting to all living spaces. To the visitor, this means 'bright and cheerful.' To the engineer this means 'energy savings.'

The traditional mortise-and-tenon oak pegged timber frame joinery proudly produced by the northern Vermont craftsmen at North Woods Joinery complemented by nine-foot ceilings of 2” natural tongue-and-groove spruce planks creates a remarkable feeling of natural comfort. The timber frame, in addition to providing great beauty, provides strength far in excess of code requirements for wind, snow, and earthquake loads.
